New distinction validates air quality and environmental sensors align with specific features in the WELL Building Standard
Haltian announced today that it is eligible for the Works with WELL trademark for its IoT sensors Thingsee AIR, Thingsee ENVIRONMENT, and Thingsee ENVIRONMENT RUGGED through a licensing program offered by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The new trademark demonstrates that Haltian environmental sensors align with health strategies within the WELL Building Standard (WELL).
WELL is the world’s leading standard that focuses on advancing people’s health and well-being with a library of holistic, evidence-based strategies applicable across buildings, organizations, and communities. Developed over 10 years and backed by the latest scientific research, WELL outlines key building-level interventions and organizational strategies across 10 concept areas: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind, and Community.
Haltian’s accreditation of the Works with WELL trademark for its environmental sensors is an important milestone for the company. This achievement places Haltian within a global movement that has seen WELL strategies adopted in over 5 billion square feet of space, positively impacting the health and well-being of an estimated 17 million people across more than 36,000 locations in over 120 countries.
Haltian’s air quality and environmental sensors support the WELL Building Standard’s thermal comfort and materials concepts, ensuring that Haltian’s products are at the forefront of creating smarter, safer, and more comfortable environments globally. The trademark is for the following WELL features:
Thermal Comfort Monitoring:
This WELL feature requires projects to monitor thermal comfort parameters using sensors in their buildings that can be used as feedback for building managers and users to take appropriate actions.
Material Restrictions:
This WELL feature restricts widely known hazardous ingredients in newly installed building materials, specifically asbestos, mercury, and lead.
Enhanced Material Restrictions:
This WELL feature requires restricting chemicals found in products commonly installed in buildings.
Under the WELL Building Standard, spaces are required to maintain temperature and relative humidity levels that adhere to the Continuous Monitoring Protocols outlined in the Performance Verification Guidebook. Additionally, it is mandated that thermal control data be accessible to occupants through a display screen or via a digital platform such as a website or mobile application, with updates occurring at a minimum every 15 minutes.
Haltian’s environmental sensors allow users to monitor thermal comfort data with updates as frequently as every 5 minutes or even more frequently, surpassing WELL’s stipulations and providing a more granular view of environmental conditions. This data can be displayed through various applications, including Haltian’s own Empathic Building office application or a client’s own visualization tool, ensuring seamless integration into existing systems.
Furthermore, Haltian’s IoT sensors are designed with safety and sustainability at the forefront, complying with material restrictions that mandate newly installed sensors to adhere to RoHS restrictions. This ensures that our sensors contain no more than 0.01% lead among other compounds and chemical classes, aligning with our commitment to environmental responsibility and user safety.

“Haltian is honored to receive the Works with the WELL trademark for our environmental sensors. This distinction affirms our commitment to creating products that not only enhance the functionality of spaces but also contribute positively to human health and well-being. Our alignment with the WELL Building Standard’s health strategies showcases our dedication to fostering smarter, safer, and more comfortable environments globally,” expressed Haltian Head of Product Management, Jarno Majava.
The Haltian Thingsee AIR is a wireless IoT sensor designed for comprehensive air quality monitoring. It measures CO2 levels, Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC), temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure, providing a holistic view of air quality in any setting.
The Haltian Thingsee ENVIRONMENT sensor is for monitoring environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, air pressure, and ambient light. In addition, it can identify the sensor’s orientation, and recognize vibration and changes in a magnetic field.
For more demanding environments, the Haltian Thingsee ENVIRONMENT RUGGED is protected against water and dust ingress and can be used in freezing temperatures. It reliably monitors temperature in outdoor spaces and industrial settings, ensuring consistent performance where standard sensors may not be suitable. In addition, it can identify the sensor’s orientation, and recognize vibration and changes in a magnetic field.
About WELL
Launched in 2022, the Works with WELL trademark licensing program recognizes products and solutions that contribute to the achieving of specific features in the WELL Standard. The Works with WELL trademark indicates specific alignment between an eligible product and at least one WELL feature or threshold, thereby informing the market of solutions available to support organizations advancing people-first places.
Driven by the global demand for healthier places and healthier organizations that support people to thrive, WELL adoption has grown exponentially since its launch in 2014. As of August 2022, WELL strategies have been used in over 5 billion square feet of space, supporting the health and well-being of an estimated 17 million people in more than 36,000 locations spanning over 120 countries.
