Product development

Bring us an idea, a need or a prototype. We turn it into a device you can manufacture and sell, and keep it on the market for years. One team covers every phase and every engineering discipline, so nothing gets lost between suppliers. We specialize in demanding devices, where size, battery life or harsh conditions leave no room for error.

Product development in three phases, one team

Technical concept

In 2–8 weeks, turn an idea or a need into a plan you can build, cost and fund.

Productization

In 6–12 months, take a validated concept through prototypes, certification and ramp-up into mass production.

Maintenance & Support

After launch, keep your product secure, certified and sellable for as long as it is on the market.

What we bring to your project

One program manager runs your project development from concept to production, with clear visibility into schedule, risks and budget. Your team stays focused on the market.

Electronics, RF and antenna, mechanics, and industrial design in one team. Every design is built for real-world conditions and cost-efficient manufacturing.

Embedded software from system architecture to production firmware and secure updates. Built for reliability, security and a long life in the field.

Wearables

Smart rings, biosensing wearables and other tiny, low-power devices that people wear every day. Wearables push every limit at once: size, battery life, antenna performance and sensor accuracy.

• Ultra-compact, high-integration hardware
• RF and antennas that work on the body
• Microamp-level power engineering
• Sensor signal integrity next to transmitting radios

Portable devices

Handheld and portable devices that go wherever their users do: cameras, military radios, field test equipment and game controllers. A portable device has to combine performance, battery life and durability in one compact package.

• Compact, high-performance electronics in a handheld form
• Long battery life under heavy use
• Durable mechanics that survive drops, dust and water

Installed devices

Embedded and edge AI devices installed in factories, vehicles and buildings, and built to keep working whatever the conditions.

• Industrial IoT and embedded Linux devices
• Edge AI devices that process data on the device
• Rugged design for demanding environments

Products no one has built before

Many of our customers are not hardware companies, and their products rarely fit a familiar category. When a product pushes the limits of size, power or environment, we are ready to take on the challenge.

• Feasibility studies for risky or completely new technology
• New sensor technologies and form factors
• Purpose-built devices for new services and business models

Oura smart ring for health monitoring, wearable tech, R&D partner

Oura

Haltian was Oura’s design and engineering partner for the 1st and 2nd generation rings, covering software, electronics, mechanical design and sourcing. The result: a titanium ring, water resistant to 100 m, that tracks sleep, activity and heart rate and runs up to seven days on a charge. Read how so much technology fit inside one small ring.

Valtamer rugged touchscreen tablet for underwater use, developed with Haltian

Valtamer

Valtamer wanted an Android tablet built from the ground up to work underwater. Its previous partner called the project impossible. Haltian took on the mechanical, antenna, electronics and software design, rebuilt the device when a key supplier went out of business, and delivered a tablet that works reliably at depths of up to 150 meters.

WhiffAway LooLights restroom occupancy system

WhiffAway

WhiffAway and Haltian co-developed LooLights, an occupancy system for busy washrooms that lets cleaning follow actual usage instead of a fixed schedule, improving efficiency and reducing waste. The solution earned WhiffAway the IWFM Impact Award for innovation in Europe and is now in use at airports including DFW, JFK and BWI.

Frequently asked questions

Haltian develops devices for its customers, from concept study and productization to mass production and long-term maintenance.

Our product development covers battery-powered, wireless and connected devices. Our deepest expertise is in wearables, such as smart rings and biosensing devices, in portable devices, such as cameras, radios and field test equipment, and in industrial and rugged devices, including edge AI and embedded Linux devices. We also develop products that do not fit any existing category.

In Finland, in the EU, and we serve customers in more than 40 countries. We design for European requirements such as CE marking and the Cyber Resilience Act from the start, so regulation is built into your product, not added later.

A concept study typically takes 2–8 weeks, and productization 6–12 months. The concept study ends with a program plan that sets out the timeline for your product.

Both, from startups preparing their first funding round to enterprises adding a device to their business.

Yes. Most customers start with a concept study, but we also take over existing concepts and prototypes and carry them into mass production.

You do. All intellectual property we create for you belongs to you.

We set up and manage manufacturing with partners in Europe or Asia, matched to your volumes. We do not run our own factory.

We sign an NDA before any confidential details are shared. Haltian is ISO 27001 compliant for information security and ISO 22301 compliant for business continuity, and we comply with the GDPR. Read more >.

Haltian has the EcoVadis Committed badge, which recognizes our sustainability management system across environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.
