Understanding Movement for Better Spaces

In an era where urban spaces are becoming increasingly complex, the need for intelligent people flow management has never been more critical. The Untangling People Flow project brings together leading Finnish organizations to revolutionize how people move through various urban environments.

Building digital solutions to optimize modern mobility

The project combines digital twins, IoT sensors, indoor-outdoor navigation systems, and cloud-based services to create a holistic framework for analyzing and improving how people navigate through cities, venues, transportation hubs, and buildings. This integrated approach aims to build system prototype that will enhance user experience, optimizing overall space utilization and increasing operational efficiency.

Collaboration of 18 industry and academia partners

At the heart of this project is the mission to create user-based recommendation systems that enhance people flow management while promoting sustainability and well-being. By leveraging digital twins, multisensory monitoring, and advanced AI algorithms, we’re developing solutions that will transform how spaces adapt to human movement patterns.

Exploring the power of IoT for people flow optimization

As a key technology partner, Haltian leverages its expertise in IoT and smart building technology to contribute to the project’s tangible outcomes. This includes the creation of new knowledge and technological know-how for improving the people-flow management, increasing space efficiency and occupants productivity.

Methodology

Digital Twins & IoT Integration

The project employs digital twins and IoT devices to create a real-time view of urban environments. These platforms will help in analyzing and managing people flow by providing insights into spatial dynamics and user interactions.

AI & Machine Learning

Advanced algorithms will be used to process live data and develop predictive models. These models will assist in real-time navigation and people flow management, enhancing the efficiency of high-performance buildings like airports and campuses.

Kumpula Campus & Helsinki Airport

The project will be implemented and tested at the University of Helsinki’s Kumpula Campus and Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. These sites will serve as test beds for deploying and refining the project’s methodologies and technologies.

PoC Validation through Pilots

International pilots will be conducted at Fontys University in the Netherlands and Istanbul Airport in Turkey. These pilots aim to validate the project’s solutions in diverse environments and gather data for further refinement and exploitation plans.

Untangling People Flow: Pioneering Smart & Sustainable Urban Environments

The project’s vision is to productize the relations between people-flow and optimal use of the built environment. The consortium’s strategic goal is to improve the people-flow management for cities, venues, transportation hubs, education facilities, and real estate using user-based recommendation systems.
